We are a GP Training Practice attached to the Northern deanery. Dr Houldsworth is our GP Trainer. GP Registrars (who are qualified Doctors who have chosen to specialise in General Practice) will be placed with us, usually for six to twelve months, so that they can gain practical experience working in a General Practice setting.
We offer placements to medical students from Newcastle University. As medical students are not yet qualified, they work under the direction and supervision of a GP. If you have a consultation with a medical student, a GP will attend at intervals during the consultation to carry out checks on the student. You will only be offered an appointment with a medical student if you consent to this and we will be clear that you are seeing a student. These placements offer medical students a valuable insight into Primary Care and it may encourage more doctors to become GPs in the future (thus addressing the national GP recruitment problems).
